The king of city-cool coastal escapes

Pentire sits high above Cornwall’s boogie-boarding, body-boarding Fistral Beach. See it all from the rooftop hot tub, chill on the terrace, relax amid the retro kitsch. This is the king of city-cool chic coastal escapes for urbanite families and groups. Refill your glass and toast the surf, the sea and the sense of freedom.

City-cool chic on Cornwall’s north shore

The future is now, and it’s facing Fistral Beach. Duplex Pentire is a four-bed fantasy world of opulence and outrageous cool in the heart of Cornwall’s boogie-boarding, body-boarding north shore. This is an eight-person penthouse that’s king of all it surveys, and you can survey it too, from the eight-person rooftop hot tub.

As dozens of board-shorted surfers wash in on the breaking waves, settle back in the hot jets with a glass of bubbly in a synthesis of wellbeing. When you’re done, slip on a robe and chill on the terrace. Take in the imposing splendour of the Headland Hotel and the beach with its headlands that channel huge, hollow breakers.

Circular Pentire Penthouse is perfect for urbanite families and groups looking for a coastal escape that’s still city-cool. Dock your phone to the boombox and chill amid the retro kitsch teak tables, Eames armchairs and Arco floor lamps. Cosy up on Cornish wool quilts and cowhide rugs with books and board games.

The contemporary kitchen, complete with pizza oven, comes with everything you need to put on a party. As darkness descends, you’ll retire to sumptuous beds with 400-thread-count Egyptian linen. Drift off to the sound of the waves amid sheepskin rugs, brass light fixtures and impeccable furnishings.

Rooftop and hot tub

There’s no greenery here, but you won’t be disappointed. The rooftop terrace is all you need. Cast your eyes seawards and take in the sweep of Pentire Head, the Headland Hotel and the white horses that crash over and over against Fistral Beach.

There’s space up here for sunbathing, for al-fresco drinks or dining on the outside seating, or just for dreaming. But that would be to ignore the elephant: the eight-seat hot tub is bubbling and boiling, ready for stargazing, socialising and sipping Prosecco.

Living spaces

This is the boutique penthouse look that’s sure to make urbanites feel right at home. Settle back on soft leather amid sleek, retro luxury in the form of Eames armchairs, teak tables and Arco lamps. All around, cowhide rugs and cosy quilts soften your stay. Break out the board games and burrow down for the evening.

On the upper level, all is airy and bright through the floor-to-ceiling windows, diffused with the unique tonality of light refracted from the ocean. There’s a minimalist yet homely feel that’s remote and cosy at the same time.

This is a place to escape, to plough through a pile of books. Dock your phone to the boombox and add a little atmosphere. At night, hunker down with family and friends over cards or charades or a good movie on the flatscreen TV.

Cooking and dining

The contemporary kitchen gleams in the light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Raid the large fridge for home-reared beef, lamb and veg fresh from Trevilley Farm Shop. Serve up your supper with the windows open to the call of the gulls and the sound of the surf. Wash it all down with a chilled Chardonnay from the wine fridge.

There’s everything you need here to dine in style: freezer, two ovens, including a microwave and pizza oven, pop-up extractor and pop-up plugs for the Dualit kettle and toaster, for essential late-night snackery over a game of gin rummy. Want to take it easy? Let our chefs step in for a special celebration or fully catered break.

Fistral is a foodie hotspot right on your doorstep. Within a splash of the shore, fish-and-chips is a seaside essential and they don’t get better than Rick Stein’s at Fistral Bay. Or hit Paul Harwood’s Fish House for some of Cornwall’s finest mackerel, mussels, crab and lobster served in a rustic surf-shack hung with fairy lights.

For lighter bites, the Victorian Headland Hotel will refuel coastal walkers and surfers with afternoon tea al fresco on the sea-view terrace, by the log fire in the lounge bar, or in the seascape-friendly restaurant. For avocado on toast and creamy lattes, pop over to Newquay Box and Barber, the coolest coffee shop on the coast.

Bedrooms

Pentire Penthouse sleeps ten in four light and spacious double en-suites. Sleep deeply in Egyptian cotton in sumptuous beds with a thread count as high as the penthouse itself. Refresh in rainforest showers or separate baths equipped with Tregulland & Co signature Rosemary, Sage and Burdock bath products.

Style shines through in each room, with sheepskin rugs, brass light fixtures and mid-century retro kitsch at every turn. Crank open the windows at night, breathe the sea air and drift away to the sound of the surf.

The master suite offers a superking bed or twin, plus a single z-bed in the ottoman. Bedroom two is a superking en-suite or twin that also adds a single sofa bed. Bedroom three is another superking en-suite with twin option, while bedroom four is a superking or twin with a bathroom next door.
