The Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales National Park is a special place; it has outstanding scenery, a range of wildlife habitats and a rich cultural heritage.

The Dales are well known for some of the best walks in the UK; walks nearby to Middleham include Aysgarth & Leyburn, and Ripon & Pateley Bridge.

No day out in the Yorkshire Dales would be complete without a visit to Middleham Castle. Once the childhood home of Richard III, you can relive the Castle’s illustrious history and unlock the deeds of its great owners.

Take a trip to the West Burton Falls; a secret waterfall in a beautiful setting, the whole family will love discovering this hidden gem.

Country Kids

Have a day out with the wildlife at Thorp Perrow Gardens. Meet birds of prey, meerkats, wallabies, ostriches, Belgian hares and many more wild animals. A hands on wildlife experience for all the family set amongst one of the finest collection of trees and shrubs in the country. 85 acres of beautiful gardens and grounds with a playground.

If your children like adventure then head to Aerial Extreme in Bedale or Carlton Lodge in Thirsk. Both offer tree top rope adventures, rafting and many other outdoor activities.

Egglestone Abbey gives the whole family the chance to see the charming ruins of a small monastery of Premonstratensian ‘white canons’, picturesquely set above a bend in the River Tees. A pleasant stop for budding artists and photographers.

Spend the day at Lightwater Valley at Ripon. There’s a theme park with activities including roller coasters and other rides.

For the Grown Ups

Take a trip to The Little Chocolate Shop, where you can watch our luxury chocolates being created. You will learn all about the fascinating world of chocolate and have the chance to buy delicious gifts from the beautiful shop.

Grouse and Pheasants shoot arrangements can be made at Middleham Hall. Alternatively, you can opt for Clay Pigeon Shooting at Warren Gill in Masham or at Yorkshire Outdoors in Thirsk.

Lovers of Paragliding or Paramotoring can experience this at Active Edge in Harrogate, just a short drive away. It’s an amazing way to take in the spectacular views of the Yorkshire Dales.

River Ure offers exceptional fly fishing for trout and grayling, while River Cover is filled with wild brown trout and grayling that are grown to large size.

Take a stroll to the local pub. The Black Swan is a traditional pub and restaurant which serves delicious a la carte meals.
