Big days out

The Fylde is full of fun for big groups. Shoot clay from the skies at Blackpool Gun Club or Toplands Clay Shoot. Or get into some great golf at Fairhaven, St Annes or Open Championship course and venue of legends, Royal Lytham.

Fish the lakes and lodges at Greenhalgh Fishery, Whitmore Fishery or Fylde Trout Fishery, try some off-road hacking with Wrea Green Equestrian Centre, or Go Ape at Rivington. Rent bikes or zorb at Ribby Hall, or maybe dispense some bruised backsides at Impact Paintballing in Blackpool.

Blackpool’s also good for kiss-me-quick fun and a jolly jape down the prom. Ride the Masterblaster at the Sandcastle, the UK’s largest waterpark (indoors), hit the Pleasure Beach and brave the Big One, or twirl to the music of a Wurlitzer in the Tower Ballroom.

Blow away cobwebs with a walk round Fairhaven Lake, rent a beach hut at St Anne’s, or hit the high wire in a harness at Kaos. Try a spa day at Skin and Tonic, outlet shopping at Freeport, or check out the concerts, community events and theatre at the Lowther Pavilion.

Big nights out

From popping out for a pint to the pub on the village green to super-chic cocktails at Uber in posh Poulton, there’s something for all tastes on the Fylde. In Blackpool, you’ll find pubs and clubs aplenty, laughs at the Comedy Station and a cheeky good time at revue bar Funny Girls.

For a more-refined night out, try Lytham, with its cocktail bars, champagne bars and tapas restaurants. Sip mojitos in The Loft or, for the continental-café feel, head to Zest, sit al fresco and watch the world go by. In August, join 100,000 others and catch some global names at the Lytham Festival.

Further afield, but not much, pick from real-ale pubs to cutting-edge clubbing in Manchester. Have your drinks mixed at The Alchemist, or mix bowling and cocktails at All-Star Lanes. Or hit the Northern Quarter’s numerous bars, including Pub of the Year Port Street Beer House, and Bakerie, where they bake their own bread.

Vulture some culture at the Lowry, the Opera House and the Palace Theatre. Dance till dawn at the Hula Tiki Lounge, Tiger Tiger or the Black Dog Ballroom. Or maybe spin the wheel at Manchester 235, a Vegas-style casino with restaurants, gaming and a glamorous cocktail bar.
