Casual luxury in the Cotswolds

Where the cows roam free on the common, where the hot tub hovers over a verdant Cotswolds valley, where honeyed stone drips with wisteria, sits Cotswold View. Stargaze around the firepit, play a little pool or ping-pong, take in the stunning views and infinite shades of green. Indulge yourself in a world of casual English luxury.

Where cows on the common roam free

How English is Cotswold View? The cows on Rodborough Common roam free for half the year. Winston’s Ice Cream is just a waddle away. Painswick and Nailsworth, probably mentioned in the Domesday Book for fine dining, are close by. And the hot tub hovers over the kind of verdant valley that inspired the poetry of Hardy and Pope.

If you’ve got a crush on the Cotswolds, Cotswold View will lure you into a full-blown affair. Minchinhampton is a place where ancient honeyed stone drips heavy with wisteria, where shallow streams are kissed by weeping willow, where old pub signs creak in the breeze, and where tractors pause for processions of ducklings.

Cotswold View is private, yet everything’s accessible. High on a hill among two-and-a-half acres of paddock and lawn, you’ll do all the overlooking. With sweeping and dramatic views, you’ll never want to leave. Inside, you’ll enter a haven of casual English luxury. A world of warm rugs and logs ready to load. Stargaze around the firepit and party like a rockstar with your nearest and dearest.

Stream the superfast wifi, pot the pool balls, play a little ping-pong or table football, or just raid the shelves for reading matter. Cook up a feast on the Aga, eat out on the terrace beneath the kites and the kestrels, or potter off to The Old Lodge for a pint and a pub meal. Sleep in grand beds with sweeping views down the valley to Chalford. This is country living in modern style.

Hot tub, gardens and grounds

At the end of a private road and surrounded by National Trust land, things are pretty quiet around here. Two-and-a-half acres of paddock and lawn invite exploration. Or just lazy lounging: take a dip in the hot tub and stare out at the valley views down to Chalford.

Kick a ball around on the lawn. Bring your dogs and chuck a frisbee. Eat out on the terrace, flip your burgers on the barbecue, or be waited on by DineIndulge. Breathe the clear Cotswold air, toss your salad in the sunshine, pour another Prosecco.

Keen on walking or cycling? You’ve come to the right place. Surrounded by National Trust land, your adventure starts at the gate with all the beauty of Stroud and the Severn Valley to explore.

Living spaces

Sweeping valley views are a plus point here and the living room’s glass walls present them in Cinemascope, glorious Technicolour and 3D imagery. Throw open the windows and get Surround Sound as well. Dock your iPod to add the music. Need lots of space? The main reception room is a mere 26” x 31”.

Dotted around the place, you’ll find an L-shaped sofa that needs its own postcode, smart wooden flooring, spotlights and artefacts designed to give you that gooey homely feeling. Put another pod in the Tassimo, chuck another log on the fire and settle back to do nothing except pluck another book from the shelf or scroll through the remote.

You’ve got TVs in the main bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. But you’ll find the main one in the living room. It’s fully armed and dangerous, with a full BT package that includes Sky Sports, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Now TV. So you won’t miss your favourite series or sports event.

Want to play your own competitive sport? That’s what the games barn is for. Pick from pool, table tennis, table football or darts. Or just dig out the board games or the XBox. Stream and surf with the fast BT wifi. Do as much or as little as you like, but do it all in a homely atmosphere of comfortable luxury.

Cooking and dining

The kitchen at Cotswold View is a feast for the eyes. It comes with everything you need to raise your culinary game. There’s an Aga the size of the village green and the house throws in a fan oven, microwave, toaster, dishwasher and ice machine. Eat around the island or gather at the 12-seat dining table with the doors open to the birds and bees.

Want to join them? Head out to the abundant gardens to sit around in the sunshine and sizzle some burgers and bangers on the gas barbie. Wash it all down with tipples from Raffles. Prefer zero effort? Call up DineIndulge for restaurant-quality gourmet menus prepared by your own personal chef. Choose a one-off event or fully catered break.

Alternatively, book a table at The Crown and tuck into Sunday roasts, grilled Brixham Bay sole, dry-aged sirloin or upside-down beetroot tart. Try The Black Horse, a 1600s pub offering hearty fare, local ale and valley views. Or how about the 17th century Weighbridge Inn, with its rustic decor, open fires, and specialist pie menu?

Fish and chips? The Chip Shed’s just down the road. Or head into Nailsworth for amazing Italian food at Amalfi or Mediterranean munchies at The Olive Tree, complete with options that avoid gluten, dairy and soya. Head to The Old Fleece for steak au poivre or spiced beanburger. Or, hunker down at Cotswold View and treat it as your own secluded country retreat. There’s plenty of mod cons to make country living a breeze.

Bedrooms here are big and beautiful with chandeliers, sleigh beds and heavy curtains designed to help you doze like a demon. A very tired demon. Wrap yourself in luxurious linen and wake up to pure British wool carpets.

Bedroom one and two both offer kingsize beds with wood and gold headboards. Bedroom three is a single, while bedroom four provides a kingsize bed with courtyard views. Bedroom five up on the mezzanine offers a kingsize and a single. Complete with two quality zedbeds, Cotswold View cossets up to 12 in considerable comfort.

Children Welcome

At Cotswold View there’s something for everyone. Surrounded by National Trust land and with ample space to explore, there is no better playground to explore the English countryside. Walk or cycle the Stroud and Severn Valley, ride the canal towpaths, go free-range and go wild in nature. Your adventure starts at your doorstep. Before you head off to explore the rolling hills beyond, take a peek outside the living room’s glass walls to see your private garden. Valley views included as standard.

There’s a games barn featuring a pool table, table football, table tennis, dart board and more. Settle down with a movie in the TV room, practice your penalties in the garden, or hold ping pong competitions in the games barn. Better still, head over to the all weather tennis court and crown your own Wimbledon champ.

The lines between indoors and outdoors are blurred here, with a huge living room that opens right out into the garden. Let the kids explore the garden while you take a dip in the hot tub, party like a rockstar in the living room while the kids battle out tournaments in the games barn, or dine al fresco and enjoy a drink (or two) around the dramatic firepit table while the children settle in with a film. This is family-friendly luxury with views from every corner. Sink into country living, relax, and unwind.
