Spetchley is a well-kept secret, an English idyll of patchwork fields and apple and plum orchards on the cusp of the Cotswolds. But don’t let the country exterior fool you; this is a house that knows how to have fun too.
Amidst misty meadows and villages peppered with ancient-timbered houses, Churchill Wood sits ready for family-and-friends get-togethers. The sprawling lawns are big enough for a summer fete, perfect for bouncy castles, tea parties and picnics.
Churchill Wood is the best of both worlds: designer chic on the inside meets muddy wellies on the outside – with space for 16 and a dining table big enough for everyone to chew over today and plan for tomorrow. Before bed, light the logs in the living room and fire up a movie. The possibilities are endless here.
The garden is a perfect English sward adorned with elms and oaks. Ideal for your own private Olympics. Bring a picnic and some Prosecco and all is right with the world.
The terrace here sits brimming with garden furniture. On a summer’s day, it’s an invitation to forget your cares and soak up the scene. As the kids play on the slide and swings or boot a ball into the footy nets, set steaks to sizzle on the barbie. Pop open a bottle and don’t even try to resist the hot tub.
At Churchill Wood, we’ve turned al-fresco good living into an art form.
Churchill wood has bags of space for everyone to relax in and stunning contemporary furnishings throughout. Perfect for family and friends or a girlie weekend away, the house has something for all ages.
Relax and recharge before the evening gets under way. Gather wood, light the logburner and settle down for a snooze in front of the fire, or pop on a film. For your own company, there are logs to burn in the snug, too, plus a snuggly chair or two and a page turner to while away the time.
Kids large and small will love the games room. The area’s enchanting, the country air invigorating, but it’s often the smaller things that make the biggest memories. You can’t have enough air hockey or table football.
This is the big house that feels like home. For families, for friends, for hens, for celebrations. While kids get giddy over games and books and hide-and-seek, you’ll relax and recharge beneath oak beams in log-lit splendour. Pop some corks and loosen your belts.
The dining table’s set for 16 and you’re all set to discover each other again. You’ve worked as a team in the oak-beamed country kitchen, the wine’s chilled and dinner is warming in the Aga.
At Churchill Wood, the huge, light filled kitchen is the heart of the house, with an island, breakfast area and views out over the gardens.
If you want to skip the preparation and move straight to the celebration, we can step in. Our chefs will magic up a three-course meal while you hot-foot it to the hot-tub or just chillax with a glass. We’ll even whittle away the washing-up. From a one-off celebration to a fully catered break, we’re happy to help.
Eating out? Try the best carvery in Worcestershire, and an ale or pale or two, at the March Hare Inn in Broughton Hackett. For something special, there’s a Michelin star just half an hour away at the Butcher’s Arms in Eldersfield. Anyone for turbot roasted on the bone with mini oxtail pie and truffle mash? Mmm.
Sleeping 16 in soft-cottoned comfort, Churchill Wood is primed for a party, celebration or family holiday. At the end of a day’s exploration and relaxation, you’ll sink into cool cotton sheets under goosedown covers.
There are seven bedrooms here, the master with en-suite. There’s a zip-and-link option there, and in three other bedrooms. If you’re having a guestfest, there’s potential for an extra bed in the master and bedroom six.
The furniture’s solid oak, the mattresses firm but forgiving and the décor feels like home. Notch open the window, hear the hoot of an owl and dream the dreams of the truly blessed.
When they’re older, their memories of family holidays aren’t always the big things. The days out are fun but it’s often the homely stuff that sticks in the memory. Like the family film night when it seems mum and dad have forgotten about bedtime.
They’ll remember the games of cards and charades, the hide and seek in the nooks and crannies of unfamiliar rooms, the expanses of lawn for banging a ball into an empty net. Then being wearily carried to bed after another exhausting day of discovery.
At Churchill Wood, we’re parents, too, and we go out of our way to make children welcome. You’ll find two cots and two high chairs and a bunch of books, toys and games that’ll lift their eyes from their iPads. We’ve big TVs for film nights and the hot tub won’t fail to raise a wow among bigger kids.
The games room holds the promise of table footy and air hockey, the children’s den is full of toys and has it’s own TV, and the endless lawns host swings and slides and promise hours of tig, roly-poly and garden games. Watch from the patio as the barbie sizzles and memories of fun and freedom come to life.
