The Reach - kate & tom's Large Holiday Homes

Party-perfect with gym and Jacuzzi

Beyond the electric gates, city-slick gives way to the call of the moorhen. Rivington’s perfect for a yomp and a romp, but you might prefer an early-morning energiser in the indoor pool or fully-equipped gym. Or a lazy loll around in the Jacuzzi or steam room. Either way, The Reach is party-perfect.

The night is always young

Play and party in one of the North West’s most desirable getaway homes. Just 30 minutes from Manchester, The Reach sleeps 20, but feels the night is too young for sleep. The lights of Bolton and Manchester sit close by, but there are toys aplenty on site, too.

The surrounding woodland and moorland, close to stunning Rivington, is perfect for a yomp and a romp. But if you’re looking for manmade action, how about an early-morning energiser in the 11-metre pool or the fully-equipped gym? Or maybe a lazy evening loll around in the Jacuzzi or steam room?

If you’re a sun bunny, head through the double doors to the huge, south-facing deck, or maybe fire up the barbecue and turn some steaks. Beyond the electric gates, the views are a wow, a feeling that continues inside with the glass balustrade, the sweeping stairs and the monster breakfast area.

The Reach just wants to celebrate, and it makes a hen weekend or family and friends reunion simple and sophisticated. Two great golf courses sit close by and Rivington’s Go Ape is just a short swing away through the trees. Get them all together, celebrate in style, then try to leave.

Pool, gardens and grounds

The electric gates and sweeping drive (mind the rabbits) are a good start. And they deliver on their promise tenfold. From English lawns that are a great place for a party to serious indoor action, The Reach is the 24-hour party palace that doesn’t believe in bedtime.

The gardens and grounds are set fair for drinks and maybe dinner on the lawns followed by a yomp through the woodlands. But there’s fun and frolics indoors, too. Make your way through the games room to the 11-metre indoor pool for the perfect cure for bad heads, then chill out in the Jacuzzi or steam room.

From here, it’s a quick swish of the double doors and you’re out on the huge, south-facing deck where you can top up your tan or tuck into al-fresco steak and sausages on the barbie. The view’s not bad, either, with wild woodland giving way to the towering heights of Rivington and Winter Hill beyond.

Living spaces

You could hold a party in the entrance hall. Grand and gracious, it gives way to a sweeping staircase complete with glass balustrade. Follow your nose to the lounge at the top, with its vast semi-circular seating and TV that will beam you box sets or the big match at the touch of a button.

Downstairs, all manner of snugs and playrooms are available. The Bury and the office are rooms to get together for coffee or swerve the melee with a book. The games room is another great escape, maybe for board games, a quick eight-ball on the pool table, a quiet time in front of the TV, or just a quiet time, full stop.

If you’re yomping over the moors, there’s a boot room by the kitchen for your mucky stuff. The rest of the 400-square-metre downstairs is given over to swimming and gymning. The Reach is the glamorous getaway haven where the silent seclusion outside provides the perfect counterpoint to the toys and games inside.

Cooking and dining

If you want to put your feet up, you can. Our recommended chefs from Wild Garlic will cook up a storm for up to 20, serve with a smile, then clear away afterwards. Get together under the dining room spotlights above the parquet flooring and swap stories, share wine and break bread. This is what good times are made of.

If you want to chip in and do it yourselves, the facilities, previously used on the Hairy Bikers’ Christmas Special, are a double-sinked, double-ovened delight. There’s plenty of counter space for chopping and chatting and you can eat informally in the breakfast room. For sizzling steaks in the fresh moorland air, the outside deck comes highly recommended.

For local beers and bites, try Bistro 341 for apple-brined pork cutlet and honey-roasted duck. A little further afield, Nick’s Restaurant has them queuing out the door for sirloin steak and Goosnargh duck.

If you want to be where the lights shine brighter, go global with a melting pot of tastes at Manchester’s Red Hot World Buffet. Try the authentic taste of South America at Bem Brasil or head East for Sapporo Teppanyaki, a stylish Japanese venue with sushi washed down with Yamazaki whisky and sake.

Bedrooms

The Reach has space aplenty, with sleeping for 20 in the main house and 5 more in the annex. But, with the lights and sights of Manchester twinkling in the near distance and all sorts of on-site distractions, how much sleeping you do is entirely up to you.

There are eight suites and bedrooms here to pick over. Every one is delectable, tasteful and different. The furnishing is all understated charm and tasteful indulgence. Mattresses are fully orthopaedic, so you’ll learn the difference between merely sleeping and being asleep.

Need your own space? The annex, with its own kitchen and bathroom, sleeps 5 across two bedrooms. This is perfect for when you are ready to kick off your dancing shoes and wind down, whilst the party still continues in the main house.

For wedding receptions, The Ainscow Suite comes with plenty of space for bridesmaids and an extra-large wardrobe in which to hang the dress. But all rooms have king-size beds and enough room for small-sided football (not recommended). Accommodation won’t be a problem here.

Christmas at The Reach

Spend Christmas at The Reach and make memories that will last a lifetime. Fairy lights adorn the Christmas trees around the property whilst moonlight illuminates decorations in the garden and the grand dining room is ready and waiting to host your family festivities.

On Christmas morning, have fun and build up an appetite with some healthy competition in the games room. After your festive feast, curl up in the lounge and gather the family in the cinema room for a Christmas classic.

Go Ape, chill or vulture the culture

The moorland playground is all around and the bright lights of Manchester shimmer in the near distance. Ski and snowboard at Chill Factore, Go Ape at Rivington or shoot some golf at Dunscar and Turton. Mixology’s big in Manchester at Tusk and The Alchemist, and culture vultures will love Home and The Whitworth Gallery.
