The Georgians had it good, and Sibton Park in Suffolk is the proof. They had architectural elegance, snug gun rooms, chandeliers dripping with charm, serpentine drives, rolling parklands and Chinoiserie wallpaper.
You’ll have all this, too, but you’ll also go one up, because you can fire up a movie in the giant-screen, surround-sound Blu-Ray movie room. You can work out in the on-site gym. Pad across heated marble floors to your freestanding bath. And you can watch your bedroom TV glide out from inside its blanket box.
The spirit of good living lives on at Sibton Park. You’ll cook up a storm in the Aga kitchen with seating for 24. You’ll kick back in front of roaring fires as you pop a cork and turn a page or two. And you’ll sleep like kings and queens in royalty-approved Hypnos beds.
Sleeping 24, Sibton Park is a period escape that’s the height of indulgence. You’ll revel in the opulence, but the real luxury is the time you spend with the people who matter.
Live the English dream in the endless acres of Sibton Park. Wander the woodlands, see the morning mist over the wetlands. For the nocturnal, the night canopy comes unpolluted by light. Enjoy the flora and keep an eye peeled for fauna, too.
The woodlands, meadows and hedgerows are alive with migratory wetland species. Listen hard for the shrill call of the reed bunting, the chirrup of the reed warbler and the boom of the bittern.
Take your binoculars and spot damselflies and dragonflies, otters and American mink slinking into the water. Rise early and catch the bellowing stags in the morning mist or take a Morning Chorus birdsong tour.
In among the reed beds, you can see frogs, snakes, voles and great-crested newts. Sit under the stars in the evening as the pipistrelle bats swoop low over the Shiraz.
The outdoor heated swimming pool has spectacular views over the estate which you can enjoy from the water or on one of the sun chairs on the surrounding terrace.
Follow the serpentine drive to an oasis of five-star luxury. There’s no need to duck through the triple-height entrance hall, then the choice is yours. Light the fires and put your feet up in the sunlit morning room, the Chinoiserie-papered drawing room, the dramatic dining room or the luxurious library.
The Georgians had it good, but they never had it this good. Pop open some popcorn, settle back in the sumptuous armchairs and enjoy family movie night in the private Blu-Ray, surround-sound cinema. If the kids get itchy feet, the games room complete with pool, table tennis and table football will fit the bill.
Sibton Park is packed with escape holes and special spaces. You can be as solitary or sociable as you like. Sip a scotch and turn a few pages in the snug gun room. Get together and make merry around the family kitchen with seating for 24. Fire up the logs in the lounge for tall tales and long drinks.
There’s wifi for keeping in touch, a fully equipped gym for keeping toned and iPod docks throughout for spontaneous singalongs.
The Aga kitchen and 24-seat dining might tempt you to show off your skills. But if you’d rather put your feet up than get your fish-scaler out, we can provide the chef.
But it gets better. Five-star is par for the course at Sibton, with service, butler, chef and waiting staff on hand to buff up the already gleaming air of class. The concierge will ensure all is to your satisfaction. You won’t have to worry about the washing-up.
Choose from bespoke, one-off menus for celebrations or fully catered holidays, country and continental breakfasts, lavish lunches and scrumptious suppers. Picnicking in the parklands? Let us load the hamper with fresh local fare and plenty of fizz.
For a change of scene, local village pubs come with cosy snugs, big fireplaces and full plates. Or hit cosmopolitan Norwich or beautiful Bury St Edmunds for Chinese, Vietnamese, Lebanese, Italian and more.
Bedrooms here come with a vigorous nod towards opulence. All are as sumptuous as it gets, so squabbling will be quashed at the door. On the first floor, seven king-size rooms look onto rolling parkland. Six have en-suite marble bathrooms, most have separate showers and many have freestanding baths. Floors are toasty warm.
Among five further bedrooms, four are king-size with marble en-suite shower and/or bathrooms. Hypnos beds are approved by the Queen and you’ll feel like royalty, too, as you burrow down into deep slumber.
It gets no better than a movie in bed, so flick the button and watch the flatscreen LED TV rise from the blanket box at the foot of the bed. After all, anywhere with a butler knows that discretion is the name of the game. If you fancy a morning singalong, you’ll find iPod docks here, too, and wifi for keeping in touch.
In the bathrooms, you’ll find endless piping-hot water, soft, fluffy gowns to snuggle into and products that are kind to nature.
