You’ve unpacked, poured a Nespresso and chilled on the deck. You’ve been lulled by the wash of the lakewater against the shore. You loved the home cinema. The kids are on the PS4. You’ve been here an hour but you’re fairly sure you never want to leave.
The Lakes By Yoo is England’s answer to The Hamptons, the Long Island beach resort beloved of American presidents and movie stars. Lakeside Villa, sleeping up to 15, is marketed in the ‘Fabulous’ category, and it’s little wonder. It’s a lakeside exercise in exquisite décor surrounded by otters, deer and wild Cotswold woodland.
Wander over to the shared indoor pool and spa for some Spiezia Organics pampering. Explore the woodland. Take a boat out on the lake. Fish for trout and crayfish from the deck. Feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. Sense the silence and utter serenity. Remember what it means to relax.
For some, beyond the woods and the lakes, the Cotswolds, with its honeystone villages, willows weeping into streams and low bridges, might be garden enough. But on site, there are 650 acres of serene lakewater and tangled woodland to explore.
The lakes teem with trout and tench, pike and perch. Hire tackle from the Fishing Hut, arrange lessons, then show up at the Saturday Hook and Cook Barbeque to smoke your catch and bemoan the one that got away.
Swim or sail from the sandy beach as you look for otters or the deer that roam the banks. Send the kids off to the zip wires or to the Kids’ Club to bang the drums at the School of Rock or learn to track at the School of Wild. Work hard in the gym, then reward yourself with some play and pampering in the shared spa and pool.
Review the day on the deck that hangs over the lake. Fire up the barbie, turn some steaks, pop the Prosecco and listen to the sound of serenity as the sun dips beyond the treeline.
There are spaces to sprawl and socialise and spaces to escape to with a book. Lakeside Villa has a place for every mood, and every one is a dream in minimalist warm caramel. Slide back the doors to the lower deck or the solarium balcony, put your feet up and watch a simple world of deer, otters and watercraft.
This is a three-storey haven of serenity that gives you the gift of time spent with the people who matter. Gather round, cosy up and load up a Sky or Blu-ray movie in the home cinema, lounge together over cocktails on the sundecks, or fish for perch and roach from the decks.
Just being at Lakeside Villa makes you feel special. Designed by Yoo Studio, this is England’s Hamptons, Long Island’s second-home paradise beloved of US glitterati.
Pour yourself a Nespresso, settle back among the natural materials, break out the board games and be a family again. Lakeside Villa specialises in making special times easy.
You can have a butler – and uniformed staff. Not to mention the cream of Cotswold cuisine in the shape of chefs from Gusto, Mint, Soushi and Cotswold Catering. Put your feet up with the antipasti as we get busy over the Gaggenau. That’s after we’ve organised your food delivery and stocked your kitchen with goodies.
Whether it’s an intimate dinner for two, or entertaining for a dozen or more, we’ll dish up something delectable. But if you’d prefer to cook your catch yourself, you’ll find the facilities most satisfying. Alternatively, eat al fresco on the deck barbecue, rising from your lakeside lounger every few minutes to turn a steak or sip a G&T.
If you’ve caught trout, perch or roach from the deck or the boat, head over to the Saturday Hook and Cook Barbeque for fishermen’s tales and your own fresh fish smoked in the lakeside air.
Eating out? L’Artigiano offers pizza and pasta, while Colley’s in Lechlade is good for hake loin, ribeye steak or American dining. For something truly special, book ahead at Michelin-starred Lords of the Manor and tantalise your tastebuds with pot-roasted breast of squab pigeon or loin and haunch of Salisbury Plain venison.
At Lakeside Villa, it’s not where you sleep, it’s how you sleep. With the happy lapping of waves against the lake shore and the pure Cotswold air filtering through the curtains, this is the very definition of deep slumber.
